Some days out work best when everyone has something to get stuck into. Wildlands in Moycullen brings climbing, treetop adventure and imaginative play into one woodland setting near Galway, with options that suit very different ideas of fun.
The trick is to choose your activities before you arrive. A teenager keen to tackle an obstacle course and a small child happiest in a miniature village will need different bookings.
Pick the adventure that fits
Zip ‘n’ Trek is the headline choice for visitors drawn to aerial courses, while its Junior counterpart caters for younger adventurers who meet the relevant requirements. Indoors, Fun Walls offers climbing challenges, and the Ninja Course focuses on balancing, swinging and negotiating obstacles.
Baile Beag takes a different approach: a miniature role-play village where younger children can let their imaginations lead. Other options include net adventures, bushcraft and the Celtic Challenge Rooms. Availability changes by date, so use the live activity list to build your visit.
Our suggestion is to start with one activity everyone is excited about. Add a second only if the timing leaves room for a proper break; an afternoon of fun quickly loses its appeal if you are rushing from one check-in to another.
Read the requirements before paying
Each activity has its own age, height and supervision rules. Check the Adventure Overview on the activity page and the booking summary for every participant. Similar names do not mean identical eligibility, and adults may need to participate on some courses.
Complete the required waivers in advance and allow at least twenty minutes before your session. Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe, flat shoes that stay securely on your feet.
Food, trails and the rest of the day
The Olive Tree Kitchen provides an on-site food option and is open to the public. For a family visit, put a meal between sessions rather than hoping a quick snack will keep everyone going.
The walks, fairy trails and playground are for booked activity customers, with conditions for accompanying visitors. Wildlands is not a free public woodland park. Check the current booking options if part of your group will not be taking an activity.
Getting there
Address: Ballyquirke, Moycullen, County Galway, H91 WYV2. Opening and activity schedules vary through the year. Book ahead, especially for weekends and school holidays, and ask the team directly about access needs for your chosen activity.
This is a useful alternative to a long driving day in Connemara: choose a session, enjoy it properly, then decide whether you have energy left for anything else.
